No Mercy est le deuxième roman de l'écrivaine Joanna Schaffhausen, qui a remporté un prix.

L'agent de police Ellery Hathaway est en congé involontaire de son travail parce qu'elle a tué un meurtrier de sang-froid et refuse de s'excuser pour cela. Forcée de suivre une thérapie de groupe pour les victimes de crimes violents, Ellery trouve immédiatement plus prioritaire que de " prendre contact avec ses sentiments ".

D'une part, elle soupçonne un membre du groupe d'avoir aidé à condamner la mauvaise personne pour un incendie criminel mortel il y a des années. D'autre part, Ellery se retrouve dans les griffes désespérées d'une femme qui a survécu à un viol brutal. Il est toujours dehors, cet homme avec la capacité de Spider-Man de grimper par les fenêtres de la chambre, et sa victime supplie Ellery de l'aider à capturer son agresseur.

Ellery demande conseil à son ami, le profileur du FBI Reed Markham, qui l'a libérée du placard d'un tueur quand elle était enfant. Reed reste attiré par cette femme imprévisible, celle qu'il a sauvée mais qu'il n'a pas pu tout à fait sauver. Le problème, c'est que Reed est en lice pour une grosse promotion potentielle, et son patron n'a qu'une seule condition pour le nouveau poste : rester loin d'Ellery. Ellery ignore tous les avertissements. Au lieu de cela, elle commence à fouiller dans le passé de tout le monde sauf dans le sien - un mouvement qui, au mieux, pourrait la mettre hors du travail de façon permanente, et au pire, pourrait la mettre à la morgue de la ville.

J'ai de suite été attiré par la magnifique couverture de ce livre.

Ce livre est la suite de Vanishing season de la série Ellery Hataway.

Ellery Hataway est agent de police en congé involontaire, elle a tuer un assassin de sang froid et refuse de s'excuser. Elle doit suivre une thérapie de groupe pour victime de crime violents. Dans ce groupe elle va faire sa petite enquête : une personne accusée à tort dans un incendie criminel, une femme qui à survécu à un viol brutal et qui lui demande de l'aide. Elle va demander de l'aide à un vieil ami Reed Markham profiler au FBI. Sauf que son patron veux qu'il reste le plus loin possible d'Ellery.

Un livre lu quasi d'une traite tellement j'ai accroché à l'histoire si prenante, captivante, remplie de suspens et de rebondissements avec des personnages attachants. Hâte de lire : "The vanishing season" que je n'ai pas lu.

I was immediately attracted by the beautiful cover of this book.

This book is the sequel to Vanishing season of the Ellery Hataway series.

Ellery Hataway is a police officer on involuntary leave, she killed a murderer in cold blood and refuses to apologize. She has to attend group therapy for victims of violent crime. In this group she is going to do her little investigation: a person wrongly accused in an arson attack, a woman who survived a brutal rape and is asking for help. She's going to ask for help from an old friend, FBI profiler Reed Markham. Except her boss wants him to stay as far away from Ellery as possible.

A book read almost in one go, so much so that I hooked on the story so gripping, captivating, full of suspense and twists with endearing characters. Can't wait to read : "The vanishing season" that I haven't read.
