Conclusion :
Summary :
Florence, early 1940s.
In the beautiful pink flagstone villa of the Rossellis, Angelo Bianco, although an orphan, grew up as a full member of the family. Eva, the daughter of the house, two years younger than him, played the violin for him, danced for him and waded in the fountain to amuse him. Inseparable, they argued over small matters and confessed their deepest secrets to each other. Yet they never saw each other again after he became a priest: she never forgave him for abandoning her to join the priesthood.
But when the Nazis arrive in Italy, the quarrels of the past are no longer important. As a Jew, Eva risks deportation and Angelo is the only one who can save her. Engaged in the Catholic resistance networks, he hides and exfiltrates refugees from occupied countries. He is ready to sacrifice everything for her, but in the face of the dark hours that lie ahead, will it be enough?
Amy Harmon offers us a dazzling family epic in an Italy facing one of the most tragic periods in its history.

She is the author of several USA Today, New York Times, and Wall Street Journal best-selling novels, including Our Hidden Sides, which has moved readers of all ages, and What the Wind Whispers, published in France by Charleston Press.
My review :
What a pleasure to read the next novel of the famous author Amy Harmon, read together with the instagram subscribers of Charleston. Having loved "What the Wind Whispers", I loved this one even more, it's a change to show us the horrors that happened in Italy.
The story takes place in Florence in Italy in the 40s.
We find Angelo, an orphan who grew up in Eva's family and they are inseparable, she played the violin for him, danced for him. And yet, when he chose to become a priest, they never saw each other again. She never forgave him for that.
Except that the Nazis land in Italy, Eva being Jewish will have to do everything to hide her identity. Risking deportation, Angelo will do everything to save her. He is part of a network of Catholic resistance fighters, he is ready to do anything for her, but will he be enough to save her?
Conclusion :
I was immediately hooked on the story so gripping, moving throughout the book, suspense, twists, very endearing characters. The more the days passed the more I was impatient to dive back into the book. I love the author's addictive writing style.
If you like this kind of book where the author shows us the horrors of the past in Italy in the 40's, where the two main characters do everything to save their skin, this is the book to read.
A book that we will not forget so soon that I will surely read again later so much this author has a pen so addictive.
