Né en 1947 à Portland (Maine), Stephen King a connu son premier succès en 1974 avec Carrie. En une quarantaine d’années, on lui doit plus de cinquante romans et autant de nouvelles, certains sous le pseudonyme de Richard Bachman. Il a reçu de nombreuses distinctions littéraires, dont le prestigieux Grand Master Award des Mystery Writers of America pour l’ensemble de sa carrière en 2007. Son œuvre a été largement adaptée au cinéma et à la télévision.

Résumé :

Dans la petite ville de Castle Rock, les rumeurs circulent vite. Trop vite. C’est pourquoi Scott Carey ne veut confier son secret à nul autre que son ami le docteur Bob Ellis  : avec ou sans vêtements, sa balance affiche le même chiffre et chaque jour, immanquablement, son poids diminue. Que se passera-t-il quand il ne pèsera plus rien ?
Scott doit également faire face à un autre problème : les chiens de ses nouvelles voisines ont décidé que sa pelouse était le lieu idéal pour faire leurs besoins. Entre le couple et Scott, la guerre est déclarée. Mais lorsqu’il comprend que le comportement des habitants de Castle Rock, y compris le sien, envers les deux femmes mariées met en péril le restaurant qu’elles ont ouvert en ville, il décide de mettre son « pouvoir » à contribution pour les aider.

Summary :

Although Scott Carey doesn’t look any different, he’s been steadily losing weight. There are a couple of other odd things, too. He weighs the same in his clothes and out of them, no matter how heavy they are. Scott doesn’t want to be poked and prodded. He mostly just wants someone else to know, and he trusts Doctor Bob Ellis.

In the small town of Castle Rock, the setting of many of King’s most iconic stories, Scott is engaged in a low grade—but escalating—battle with the lesbians next door whose dog regularly drops his business on Scott’s lawn. One of the women is friendly; the other, cold as ice. Both are trying to launch a new restaurant, but the people of Castle Rock want no part of a gay married couple, and the place is in trouble. When Scott finally understands the prejudices they face–including his own—he tries to help. Unlikely alliances, the annual foot race, and the mystery of Scott’s affliction bring out the best in people who have indulged the worst in themselves and others.

Je tiens à remercier les éditions Livre de poche et le site Netgalley pour ce partenariat.

Ceci est ma deuxième lecture de cet auteur après le célèbre "Marche où crève" et j'adore la plume de cet auteur.

Tout ce déroule dans la ville de Castle Rock où des rumeurs peuvent circuler très vite si on n'y fait pas attention. C'est pourquoi Scott se voit confier son secret qu'au docteur Bob Ellis. Son poids reste le même aussi bien habillé que nu sur la balance et son poids diminue de jours en jours mais tout en gardant la même stature. Et Scott doit aussi faire face aux chiens de ses voisines qui n'ont trouver que le moyen d'aller faire leurs besoins sur sa pelouse. Entre eux cela va être la guerre sauf qu'il va s'apercevoir que le restaurant de celles-ci est mis en péril à cause de leurs broutilles il va tout faire pour les aider.

Un livre lu d'une traite tellement j'ai accroché à l'histoire si captivante, remplie de suspens et de rebondissements avec des personnages attachants. Hâte de me plonger dans un autre roman de cet auteur à succès.

This is my second reading of this author after the famous "Walk or Die" and I love this author's writing.

All this takes place in the town of Castle Rock where rumors can circulate very quickly if you are not careful. That's why Scott's secret is entrusted only to Dr. Bob Ellis. His weight remains the same both clothed and naked on the scales and his weight decreases from day to day but still keeps the same stature. And Scott also has to deal with his neighbours' dogs who have only found a way to relieve themselves on his lawn. Between them it will be a war except that he will realize that their restaurant is endangered because of their trifles and he will do everything to help them.

A book read in one go, so much so that I hooked on to the story so captivating, full of suspense and twists and turns with endearing characters. I can't wait to dive into another novel by this successful author.
