Résumé :

Un représentant de commerce est retrouvé dans un petit appartement de Reykjavik, tué d'une balle de Colt et le front marqué d'un "SS' en lettres de sang. Rapidement les soupçons portent sur les soldats étrangers qui grouillent dans la ville en cet été 1941.
Deux jeunes gens sont chargés des investigations : Flovent, le seul enquêteur de la police criminelle d'Islande, ex-stagiaire à Scotland Yard, et Thorson, l'Islandais né au Canada, désigné comme enquêteur par les militaires parce qu'il est bilingue.
L'afflux des soldats britanniques et américains bouleverse cette île de pêcheurs et d'agriculteurs qui évolue rapidement vers la modernité. Les femmes s'émancipent. Les nazis, malgré la dissolution de leur parti, n'ont pas renoncé à trouver des traces de leurs mythes et de la pureté aryenne dans l'île. Par ailleurs on attend en secret la visite d'un grand homme.
Les multiples rebondissements de l'enquête dressent un tableau passionnant de l'Islande de la "Situation', cette occupation de jeunes soldats qui sèment le trouble parmi la population féminine. Ils révèlent aussi des enquêteurs tenaces, méprisés par les autorités militaires mais déterminés à ne pas se laisser imposer des coupables attendus.
Dans ce roman prenant et addictif, le lecteur est aussi fasciné par le monde qu'incarnent les personnages que par l'intrigue, imprévisible.

Two young men are in charge of the investigations: Flovent, the only criminal police investigator in Iceland, a former trainee at Scotland Yard, and Thorson, the Canadian-born Icelander, designated as an investigator by the military because he is bilingual.
The influx of British and American soldiers is shaking up this island of fishermen and farmers, which is rapidly evolving towards modernity. Women are becoming emancipated. The Nazis, despite the dissolution of their party, did not give up finding traces of their myths and Aryan purity on the island. Moreover, a great man is secretly expected to visit the island.
The many twists and turns of the survey paint a fascinating picture of Iceland's 'Situation', the occupation of young soldiers who are sowing unrest among the female population. They also reveal tenacious investigators, despised by the military authorities but determined not to let the expected culprits get their way.
In this gripping and addictive novel, the reader is as fascinated by the world embodied by the characters as he is by the unpredictable plot.

Depuis le temps que je voulais commencer cette trilogie, voilà qui est fait.

Dans ce premier livre tout commence lorsque le corps d'un représentant de commerce est retrouvé mort tué d'une balle de colt dans un appartement à Reykjavik avec sur le front un signe SS marqué avec son sang. La police soupçonne des soldats étrangers qui sont en ville en l'été 1941. Deux jeunes gens vont enquêter sur e meurtre : Flovent et Thompson. Dans la ville il y à une arrivée massive de soldats britanniques et américains et les femmes s'émancipent. La venue d'un grand homme en secret est prévue.

L'auteur nous montre comment l'Islande était pendant l'occupation des jeunes soldats semant le trouble chez la gente féminine.

Un premier livre addictif, captivant, prenant avec pleins de suspens et de rebondissements avec des personnages attachants. J'ai tellement hâte de continuer à lire cette trilogie pour en apprendre un peu plus sur cette Islande en période d'occupation.

Since I've been wanting to start this trilogy, here it is.

In this first book it all begins when the body of a salesman is found dead from a colt bullet in an apartment in Reykjavik with an SS sign on his forehead marked with his blood. The police suspect foreign soldiers who are in the city in the summer of 1941. Two young men are going to investigate the murder: Flovent and Thompson. In the city there is a massive arrival of British and American soldiers and women are emancipating. The arrival of a great man is planned in secret.

The author shows us how Iceland was during the occupation of the young soldiers who were disturbing the female population.

An addictive, captivating first book, full of suspense and twists with endearing characters. I can't wait to continue reading this trilogy to learn more about Iceland during the occupation.
